As a digital nomad or remote worker, you have the world at your feet. But where is the best place to go? Is it just a case of the old classic of picking mountains vs sea? Or is there more to it?
196 Destinations will do a few articles on what your options are as a nomad. Where are you welcome? Where has not too expensive visas or extensive requirements, and where is best connected for the discerning nomad that does not want to cause additional travel pollution with their lifestyle?
Following on from a discussion on Couch-surfing Manchester group, about how some of these remote work options are presented, as you just turn up and sit on a sun lounger and do ‘work’ we thought it was time to look at the realities. (Fun and travel are necessities in our mind – don’t worry 🙂 )
Today, we’ll look at visas. And of course, with the help of our good friend Gee we present the list of Visas in Europe, ordered by income.

Who Is The Winner?
At number 1 we have the Czech Republic, as it does not have a monthly income requirement. Who would fancy sometime in/around Prague? Perhaps comment your favourite area of ‘Czechia’ in the comments below – anyone else been to Děčín? Could be great to spend a time freelancing or building a business in this great country.
Albania, Montenegro and Finland make up the next group. Finland having a high application fee, making it less affordable so it drops a place. Have you had an extended stay in one of these countries? We’d love to hear of your experience in the comments below.
Mid-Income Visa Options
At 5, Italy leads the next pack of countries, including Spain and Croatia, where there is a higher income requirement, but it is still at a reasonable level. These are all very good options for places to live the Mediterranean / Adriatic life style.
Malta is at 8, and heads the group down to Estonia (17) where there is a higher income requirement. After a certain level of income perhaps you will just go anywhere?
Iceland is out on it’s own at a super high income level – could be great for those wanting to get the perfect volcano explosion photo though 🙂
That’s it folks. In a couple of weeks, we’ll do another Digital Nomad article, and we’ll focus on how to get to locations as a nomad, with our sister site, ToTravelTo.com.
We look forward to reading your comments below in the meantime 🙂
